Urban Agriculture Revolutionary and 2008 MacArthur Genius Fellow Will Allen will be joining Feed
Denver: Urban Farms & Markets (Feed Denver) November 13-15 for an Urban Farm Raising.
Allen and his regional outreach training team from Growing Power in Wisconsin will bring their
acclaimed urban farming techniques to Denver for the first time.  Feed Denver will host Growing
Power’s “From the Ground Up” Weekend Workshop and “A Feed Denver Evening with Will Allen.”
Feed Denver has a long term partnership with Growing Power to provide training in the Rocky
Mountain region.  Allen and Growing Power have committed to supporting the development of
Feed Denver to provide local urban agriculture training.

Allen has pioneered and revolutionized urban agriculture.  In 2008 he was recognized by the
MacArthur Foundation as a farsighted genius.  His vision of sustainability has already impacted the
world.  A noted speaker for the Clinton Global Initiative, Allen was called a “hero” by President
Clinton, and is internationally recognized for his work in local urban agriculture sustainability, food
    justice, and food security.

Feed Denver: Urban Farms & Markets’ mission is to foster local food security and sustainability
through the development of urban farms and markets, creating economic opportunities while
providing innovative tools, techniques and training to empower individuals, organizations and
communities.  We believe that everyone should have access to fresh food and a healthy,
sustainable life, and we are committed to working with disadvantaged communities to ensure that
these gateways are open to all.

Feed Denver projects include the Model Urban Farm Pilot Project and Regional Training Center at
the Urban Farm at Stapleton, The Five Neighborhood Fresh Food Access and Opportunity Project
in the five-neighborhood food desert in Northeast Denver, and a Women’s Urban Farm offering
training and services to disadvantaged women and children.

Feed Denver was started in 2008 by Lisa Rogers, a third-generation Denver resident and local
business-woman, who saw the need for local fresh food access and security.  Rogers’ reputation
as an entrepreneurial pioneer began with her co-founding of Common Grounds Coffeehouses in
1992.  Over 20 volunteers are involved with Feed Denver, and are committed to its success in
empowering people to feed and sustain themselves through urban farming.  Feed Denver is a
project of the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center, a 501(C)3 nonprofit.
