Feed Denver Aquaponics Prototype @ DHA Sustainability Park

If you've followed us for a while, you know we have issues with traditional greenhouse design.  There's got to be a better growing structure for our climate in Denver than the expensive, heavy utility use designs out there.  One of our board members, Jim Frasche, of Turn-key Aquaponics, took our complaint to heart and decided to try his hand at creating a better greenhouse structure specifically for aquaponics production.  Denver Housing Authority's Sustainability Park project and the Urban Farmers Collaborative generously welcomed our project to their 25th and Lawrence location.

This project will be an aquaponics greenhouse demonstration and research project.  We will be experimenting with a variety of methods and technologies as well as a variety of fish and plants.  We hope to be operating by October and in full swing by winter.  Watch this space, sign up for our newsletter, and we will keep you informed about our progress.

The Feed Denver Aquaponics Prototype at Denver Housing Authority's Sustainability Park is a shared project between: Feed Denver Turn-key Aquaponics, and Colorado Aqua Farms.

                      Architecture for Humanity, Denver Chapter
After hearing us complain about the practicality of greenhouses in our sunny Rocky Mountain desert environment, he Denver Chapter of Architecture for Humanity decided to hold a design competition to "Design Like You Give a Damn!"   Through a number of charettes many designs were worked leading to the inspiration for our current prototype at Sustainability Park.

Denver Housing Authority  Sustainability Park & The Urban Farmers Collaborative
DHA is doing an amazing thing!  They are making a powerful impact on urban agriculture in Denver through the development of Sustainability Park.  Working with the Urban Farmers Collaborative and the Colorado Renewable Energy Society, this project highlights and incubates sustainable projects with potential to impact the future sustainability of our city.  We are grateful they have allowed us to develop our prototype as a part of this project.

Twenty or so architect students and their professors designed and built these fabulous structures to help our projects at The Urban Farm at Stapleton more focused and accessible to the students and programs we offer.  Below are the designs, work in progress and finished structures.   More information here.
